Our Spritual Director
Joy Tan
Joy Tan brings extensive experience in Church ministry and has spent the past several years leading the Catholic business Little Flock SG and the YouTube channel Faith Explorations. She is currently undertaking formal training in spiritual direction and is mentored by experienced spiritual directors in Singapore. Joy provides spiritual direction primarily to young people, offering a practical, faith-centered approach that equips them with actionable steps to deepen their relationship with God.

Must a spiritual director be a priest or religious?
No. A spiritual director does not need to be a priest or religious. Lay Catholics who have received formation in spiritual direction and are grounded in the Church’s teachings can also serve as spiritual directors. The most important qualities are prayerfulness, experience in faith, and the ability to accompany others in discerning God’s presence and guidance.
Is spiritual direction only for priests or religious?
No. Spiritual direction is for any Catholic who desires to grow closer to God. Lay persons, young adults, married couples, and those discerning life decisions can all benefit from spiritual direction.
Is spiritual direction counselling or therapy?
No. Spiritual direction focuses on your relationship with God and spiritual growth, not on mental health treatment or counselling.
Do I need to be “good at prayer” to begin?
Not at all. Spiritual direction is for beginners and experienced Catholics alike. A spiritual director meets you where you are and helps you grow at your own pace.
What happens during a spiritual direction session?
Sessions usually involve a prayerful conversation where you share about your life, prayer, and faith. The spiritual director helps you notice how God may be speaking and working in your life.
How often do I need to meet with my spiritual director?
Most people meet once every four to six weeks, but this can vary depending on your needs and availability.
Is there a fee for spiritual direction?
Spiritual direction is offered as a ministry, not a commercial service. There is no fixed fee, but a recommended offering of $20 per session is suggested to support the time and formation of our spiritual directors. Please do not let finances be a barrier — all are welcome regardless of ability to offer. Contact us to find out more.
